Full Process
When being tasked with making a flyer for a campout activity, the first step was to properly word the information provided by the activities committee. Adobe Fonts was then searched for typography preferable to advertising this campout theme. On Adobe Illustrator, the development of the hierarchy and layout was ongoing. Different fonts were tested and the activities section of the design was separated with a different background color. Along the way, the colors of the text and background were used to reflect the theme and establish a contemporary style for the flyer. Once the text and background were organized well, images of objects relevant to the campout event were included. Roasted marshmallows and a canoe were drawn to fit in the empty spaces beside the typography. In distinct shapes, these illustrations were then used for generating more elaborate marshmallow and canoe images, on Adobe Firefly. This was to practice my newfound use of generative AI in the form of imagery, so that the flyer’s message could be better communicated. After some generated images were chosen, Adobe Photoshop allowed me to scale and position them to accommodate the flyer’s layout. Then, the generated images were retouched in their vibrancy and contrast, as well as their surroundings for a bright white background. These made for great visual elements in my design, on Adobe Illustrator. At first, the date of the event was to be in the marshmallows, but that turned out to be visually displeasing. So, the date was moved to just above the activities list. And the address provided by the activities committee was incorrect, so it was revised. The hierarchy and placement of the text, as well as the background, then was adjusted to balance the visual form of the content. And the green area was given gradient borderlines to help the activities section stand out to readers. Once the flyer was finished, it was formatted into a printable PDF file, with four copies on each sheet, and given to the activities committee for printing.
