Full Process
It was time to design a poster and flyer for two Halloween activities in one. The information to be included in the design was provided by the activities committee. Research helped with finding out what visual elements could aid my design’s advertising, as well as help me determine what typography, in Adobe Fonts, could achieve the optimum results. With previous practice in the way of researching Halloween themes, my design process accelerated. For both the title fonts and some of the illustrations, like the crescent moon, spider webs, and bat. The poster was designed on Adobe Illustrator. Along the way, testing out different fonts with different colors and type systems. Especially, with purple varying in brightness alongside white. A white border was included on the poster’s edges for easier trimming. While the illustrations of the moon, bat, and spider webs were made to convey the basic idea of Halloween, the other illustrations of candy and corn on the cob were made to give readers a sense of the activities taking place. And then, all the illustrations were given varying shades of purple. Some of the smaller titles were given a slightly blue look, while the instructions listed were grouped back-to-back. That’s when the hierarchy was finished. All as a means to balance the visual elements and allow the design to perform its function better, as a whole. After the poster was completed, the flyer was made with the same design style. With the same content divided between the front and back of the flyer. And if the activities committee needed a less expensive print job, the finished design for the poster and flyer was also made into grayscale versions. And then, both the colored and grayscale versions of the poster and flyer were formatted into different printable PDF files for the ward activities committee to print copies of my design.
