Full Process
It began with my interest in illustrating this animal for personal reasons. After my research into its slightly varying appearances, the owl tested my ability to visualize forms for communicating them. My first step of the illustration process was drawing a rough sketch of the basic shapes and proportions of the owl, in pencil. Then, to refine the owl, another piece was drawn in more preferable size and closer detail. And lastly, the final iteration of the Eurasian Eagle-Owl was illustrated through black, gray, and orange drawing markers. Gradually following the owl’s colors from my research, combined with the detail and proportions of my previous sketches. While the eyes were made using black and orange, the feathers and beak were done in variations of gray. Slowly darkening to match the feather patterns of the real thing. After the illustration was complete on paper, it was framed and gifted away.
