Full Process

A dinner party needed to be advertised for Christmas, so the project started with me suggesting different theme ideas for the event. Including that of Deck the Halls. The activities committee provided the information to be put on the design. Then, began the design for the poster and flyer. Research was done to uncover different strategies of visual elements accommodating to the theme. Adobe Fonts was searched for suitable styles of typography. Then, on Adobe Illustrator, the fonts were tested for the poster. The hierarchy of the text was an ongoing issue. In my sketchbook, different illustrations such as the wreath and bow were drawn by hand, and then scanned. After being made digital, the illustrations were vectorized and smoothed out to be included in the poster’s design. All of the design’s content was given a deep green and red color palette to support the theme. To allow for the text to balance with the illustrations, some of the content was overlapped, and some of it was given white offsets. The theme title of Deck the Halls was slightly warped to make it rounded and give it the illusion of sitting on the wreath illustration. With empty space on the edges, the poster was filled with simple candy canes to illustrate more red, while the text below was green. And then, some of the content with white coloring was given a drop shadow effect to keep from seeming invisible against the white background. Once the poster’s layout was finished, the flyer was made to be the same, except for the size and hue saturation. Lastly, the poster and flyer were reformatted into printable PDFs for the activities committee to use.
