In this project, the task was to produce a design for covers and labels for a vinyl album of an artist or band, with a genre of theirs. When my brainstorming for the artist was over with, it was a singer/song-writer named Dermot Kennedy that was chosen, whose songs were generally centered around pop and hip-hop. It became a matter of having the information required. And that meant collecting the artist's songs, and producing a mood-board to compile inspirational styles of album covers, record labels and playlist covers. Then, came the thumbnail sketches that, in this case, were focused on the concept of the artist to convey the idea of Kennedy's music. After the sketching, the intended design was narrowed down to a representation of the artist himself performing his music. Much like he did on his music videos. Repeatedly, the album's cover, the record's labels and the digital playlist cover were revised to fuse the essential elements together. Like the title, songs, copyright information, bar code, etc. Thereby, constructing a layout for each individual piece of the whole design, to give it consistency. When it was over, the album and artist were well represented by the cover, and by extension, the labels on the record and the playlist cover. In conveying an expression of Dermot Kennedy, the spirit he puts into his own music is on the outside of the album, as well as the inside.
