Process

The point of this project was to produce design iterations capable of conveying the idea of a specific type of company product. My choice of product was a tissue box from a health and wellness company. The first step was making a die-cut template under certain specifications, so that the layout of the package design could have good placement for its content and could be scaled according to the proper size of package. My template would've made the box of tissues 9.5" by 4.5" by 4.5" after it was in use. After that, came the mind-map for both the logo and the package layout as a whole, so that different ideas for conveying the right moods could be recorded. And there were also thumbnail sketches to let me visualize the initial design ideas for the logo and package. Then, came the rough draft compositions for those two, plus a mood-board to bring together inspirational images of examples for my designs and my designs so far. Over the rest of the process, my designs for the logo and package were repeatedly refined with feedback from the teacher, until he asked for more iterations of the layout that the package had. That is when the designs for my logo and tissue box package started to settle. My logo stuck with something of an elegant style of flowers and the company name of "Relief" for a company of health and wellness. Making new versions of the same package meant giving my tissue box different options of visually communicative graphics, like varying patterns and color palettes. The logo's color palette would need to be adjusted to the specific package's color palette. And after a couple of attempts at each of those varying iterations, my process ended with a pattern of tree branches, one of flowers and one of circles. Each one has a gradient colored background for consistency with each other. My goal was to make designs that would attract a target audience of sickly folk, who would need the product, with the mood of nature, but in the end, the designs needed to be flexible in that regard because of how, in a way, the logo already does that. Ultimately, the product of tissues was well conveyed with similar moods from each of the three design iterations.
