Process
My task here was to design an illustration representing or symbolizing me and my self-interests in real life. The first thing to do was to compile a list of different hobbies and ideas that are associated with me, plus research into styles of avatars. Then, came the thumbnail sketches for the initial visualization of design options that the avatar could have. There were larger and more detailed drawings made later, with pencil and black marker, to test out how the different design choices would work with different kinds of contrast. And it was onward to Adobe Illustrator to create digital drafts of the avatar design, based on the previous sketches and inspirational research into possible styles. Along the way, the color palette and illustrated details took a few attempts to get the hang of. But, in the end, my illustration well represented me and my interests. The avatar includes me with a camera, as photography was one of the aspects of design that interested me. And in the background, is the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars, which represents my liking for science fiction. Lastly, the globe beside me is signifying my want to examine the world around me, the good and the bad. Through the subtly contrasting colors, my wants, likings and interests are covered and conveyed to those who would be curious about me or would like there own interests visually communicated.
